This wine behaved just like I’ve read about this DOCG. They are elegant, subtle yet crisp wines.

Nerd Alert: According to Jancis Robinson, Fiano can produce an ageworthy wine that has the potential to develop in the bottle for several years after the vintage date. Ampelographers and wine historians consider Fiano a “classical vine” of southern Italy that likely has its origins in ancient Roman viticulture and perhaps may have even been cultivated by the ancient Greeks before them. Some historians speculate that Fiano may have been the grape behind the Roman wine Apianum that was produced in the hills above Avellino.

Personal Note: I’ve been studying for my WSET Level 2 for the past few weeks without making much fanfare and I have to say this list has helped me a bit, mainly with italian wines. I opened this wine last thursday and today the class review was on white italian wines including Fiano and a few others, some of which I’ve already tried, and another still on the “To Drink” list. It helps because I’m not going into a discussion blindly. Just like college. Not that I did prep work before class while in college, but I’m pretty sure that if it had included wine, I would have been top of my class. This wine behaved just like I’ve read about this DOCG. They are elegant, subtle yet crisp wines, floral aromas with hints of tropical fruit and with some nuttiness. I had it with some fish tacos and they worked quite well together. I’m curious, how much longer I would have needed to store it, to experience something different, as Jancis says it has aging potential. I guess I must buy another and try. Anyway, not that anyone is keeping track but this wine was a 88 pts on Wine Enthusiast.

Thoughts?
