My first aroma was a subtle hint of petrol and you know where that takes us. I got some citric and pears in there and just wonderfully on palate.

Nerd Alert: Ancient white grape that, during medieval times, covered much of what is now Germany and Luxembourg. It’s been suggested that it arrived in Germany with the Romans, some 2,000 years ago. It was further suggested that the grape was the same as the “Vitis Albuelis” grape mentioned by Pliny the Elder. Faded into relative obscurity with the introduction of more commercially viable vines.
Personal Note: Remember the few times I’ve started writing with something along the lines of “this is why I do this list?” This is another. I had no idea this existed until a few months ago and I like it a lot. Found it at a store near Tampa. It’s funny, the first time I saw the bottle I told myself, man, this looks bulky, but it didn’t seem taller than other bottles, so I assumed it was a trick on my eyes. Wasn’t until recently that when turning it around I saw it was a 1 liter bottle. Never seen that size before.
I was recently invited to a tasting and I decided to share a rare wine to begin on account of it being my thing. I don’t do the mind blowing wines. I do the “Where the hell did you find that?” wines. And these guys knew about wine so their opinions would be on point. I didn’t oversell it, I told them to expect high acidity, low alcohol and a neutral profile. Come to think of it, I think I was managing my expectations as well.
What I wasn’t prepared for was for pretty much everyone liking it. My first aroma was a subtle hint of petrol and you know where that takes us. I got some citrics and pears in there and just wonderfully on palate. There was one guest who is a well respected connosseur down here that said it gave him a Sauvignon Blanc feel. Personally, I got more of a Sylvaner trying to be a trocken Riesling vibe. Regardless, it was good because the whole bottle was gone in no time. This varietal deserves more attention.
