This wine was definitely a great representation of the grape. Fragant, floral, citrus aroma, complemented well with a great acidity.

Nerd Alert: Virtually extinct until Professor of Oenology Vassilis Logothetis re-discovered it in Nafpaktia and presented it to one of his students, Vangelis Gerovassiliou, in the 1970s. Malagouzia takes well to oak aging. Turtles is the name of the single vineyard block called that way because it was an ancient nesting area for the local turtle species.

Personal Note: I took my family to the beach this past week and of course we had some wines for the day in the sun. We went to a place normally jam packed with people and even though it was a long weekend, everyone behaved, maintained their distance and overall wasn’t that full at all. I like when that happens. After opening a sparkling and enjoying that, I decided to venture with this new grape for me and the family. I’m used to trying new things but I was unsure as to how they would receive it. This wine was definitely a great representation of the grape and everyone liked it. Fragant, floral, citrus aroma, complemented well with a great acidity and it wasn’t a light wine either. This thing had a beach body and it was quite enjoyable to drink. And for those looking at points, RP gave it a 90 and so did Decanter. The points don’t necessarily mean much to me but it does mean that the wine, and therefore this grape, was in the radar of these people that dedicate their life to trying wines. So if you haven’t already…add Malagouzia to your list. Worth it.
