The nose in this wine was fantastic and the aromas of what I’m venturing to say is american oak were easily identifiable.

Nerd Alert: It’s name roughly translates as “green one” and reflects the variety’s propensity to under ripeness. The thick skins and small berries make the variety particularly resistant to rot and disease. The exact origins of Petit Verdot are unclear. It is thought that together with Duras, it is one of the parents of Tressot, an obscure almost extinct red grape from Chablis. It is also told that the grape is one of the first varieties originally planted in Bordeaux by the ancient Romans.
Personal Note: Ever found yourself in a position of rethinking your steps and wondering if you should have done certain things the way you did? Well I did with this wine. I obviously needed it for the list, but I opened this wine a bit young. I have tasted Verdot as that little extra added to Bordeaux wines but never, experienced one that was 100%. The nose in this wine was fantastic and the aromas of what I’m venturing to say is american oak were easily identifiable. Vanilla galore. Then some subtle minty freshness and traditional red fruit. Now I’m not saying the wine couldn’t be enjoyed currently. I’m just saying that as I tried it I could imagine how good it would become over time. I prefer older wines. Guilty.
You know what’s funny though? The back label has a QR Code. I didn’t see it until I started writing this. That thing has become somewhat invisible. I remember a time when it was all the craze and now it just blends into the background. Like Petit Verdot normally does.
