The tangyness of pineapple for my palate was enjoyable, although there were more subtle stone fruits present, it took control of my palate.

Nerd Alert: In the early years of the 21st Century, DNA profiling revealed that it is the same variety as Grecanico Dorato. It has shown a clear ability to produce sweet wines, particularly luscious nectars made from dried, late-harvested grapes. Collectively, in Italy, it’s grown in more than 11,000 hectares (27,000 acres).
Personal Note: At last I can write about this grape. I’ve been trying to do so for almost 30 grapes now. Seriously. This wine, is my 3rd attempt at this grape, which shows my commitment to the project. As some of you might know, Garganega is the main grape in the wines from the Soave region, but the reality is that they have been making blends for the longest time and it’s becoming a bit more strenuous to find 100% Garganega wines. I learned that the hard way. The first one I bought was a 70/30 with some Trebbiano di Soave and the second one was close to that as well. So imagine my surprise when I go to the market, find another Soave and find it’s 100% Garganega. As Charlie Sheen would say back in 2011… “Winning”. Also those other wines, will come in handy for my in depth dive of Soave. But more on that later.
This wine’s acidity was on point. The tangyness of pineapple for my palate was enjoyable, although there were more subtle stone fruits present, it took control of my palate. It was refreshing and it was a hot day. No need for food or anything and I even broke a few rules and put it in the freezer a good twenty minutes. Sue me. I enjoyed it a lot. I can’t say it has a unique profile, if I think about it it does have similar characteristics to other white grapes I’ve tried but then again, that’s what this exercise is all about. Also, Wine Enthusiast gave this particular wine a 91 and was #5 in their Top 100 Best Buys of 2020.
