Nerd Alert: Historically grown in South West France in the Madiran AOC. Introduced to Uruguay by Basque settlers, especially Pascual Harriague, in the 19th century. Tannat made its first appearance on Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines of the Year in 2017. Tacama is considered the oldest vineyard of South America established in the 1540’s by Francisco de Carabantes with vines from the Canary Islands.

Personal Note: This wine I tried in that same beginning of the year around the world tasting. My old man brought this wine. One of the things that impressed me the most was the structure of this wine after 12 years. Great nose and palate. I would have never guessed it was from Peru. The story of the Tacama winery is pretty fantastic if you have the time to read it.
