his wine in particular was bone dry with medium acidity and plenty of saline notes and minerality, maybe even some citrus in the back.
Road To 500 Grapes
After learning about Wine Century, then reading Godforsaken Grapes, I decided I want to document my experiences with every grape I encounter and since the pandemic started in 2020, I decided to extend that search to 500. It will be quite a journey, but I'm sure the learning alone will be worth it.
#83 Bobal – 417 grapes left
The fruit presence was ripe and I got subtle hints of vanilla, which matches my reading material
#82 Verdicchio – 418 grapes left
On palate I got citrus notes like grapefruit but I also got a subtle flavor of something else that I couldn’t identify.
#81 Melon de Bourgogne – 419 grapes left
This grape is known as a neutral grape from what I’ve read and I can confirm the profile presented in the wine was quite neutral but I did pick some hints of apple aromas and flavors.
#80 Monica – 420 grapes left
At first the color for a 2018 looked quite brick-like. That gave me a curious expectation and once served, the aromas of hickory and smokiness just hit me.
#79 Viura – 421 grapes left
his wine was dry, with a medium acidity but plenty of citrus and honeydew aromas and flavors including some minerality to it.
#78 Petit Verdot – 422 grapes left
The nose in this wine was fantastic and the aromas of what I’m venturing to say is american oak were easily identifiable.
#77 Scheurebe – 423 grapes left
Anyway, this wine had very little alcohol and even though I read many times it has less acidity than a Riesling.
#76 Teraldego – 424 grapes left
A grape whose dna has lived a lot longer than us. I mean, this is one of the parents of Syrah.
#75 Grk – 425 grapes left
I’ve been waiting to open this bottle for about two years with no expectations of it blowing my mind but the odds of me trying/finding this grape.
