Incredible acidity, overpowering even. It craved for food from the moment that I opened it.
Road To 500 Grapes
After learning about Wine Century, then reading Godforsaken Grapes, I decided I want to document my experiences with every grape I encounter and since the pandemic started in 2020, I decided to extend that search to 500. It will be quite a journey, but I'm sure the learning alone will be worth it.
#63 Dornfelder – 437 grapes left
Pronounced nose with black fruit. Neither dry nor sweet but I did crave a chocolate bar as I drank it.
#62 Kerner – 438 grapes left
Two wines, one story. Two countries, one grape. Pretty interesting comparison and my first 2 wine line item for the list.
#60 Viognier – 440 grapes left
Big wine, complex, aromatic, lovely color, and did I say big? This was a bold one.
#59 Blaufrankisch – 441 grapes left
Medium body dry wine, light colored with predominantly black fruit and a hint of spice.
#58 Valvin Muscat – 442 grapes left
Candied fruit aromas and flavors, with small bubles in a frizante-like style. Hard to distinguish from a regular moscato.
#57 Merlot – 443 grapes left
Black fruit forward medium bodied bold wine.
#56 Hondarrabi Zuri – 444 grapes left
Great floral aroma with nice acidity and just all around good flavor.
#55 Mencía – 445 grapes left
Not too tannic, good fruit, marked acidity. It’s been a while since I’ve had Mencía.
#54 Lagrein – 446 grapes left
Elegant like most wines from Alto Adige. Did not feel tannic as most reviews state.
